Non-gazetted positions at the Nuclear Recycle Board (NRB) at Kalpak am, Tirupur, and Mumbai have been advertised by Bhabha Atomic Research Atomic Energy (BARC). On July 1, 2022, the BARC NRB 2022 Online registration procedure will begin, and it is expected to expire on July 31, 2022.
A significant contribution to India’s total reduction in carbon intensity is made by atomic energy. Total installed capacity is 234,048 MW, 60 percent of which comes from thermal power production. The rest comes from hydropower and nuclear power (95,875 MW, 25 percent), as well as renewables and hydro. According to the National Power Portal.
Renewable forms of energy, such as wind and solar power, are environmentally good, but they are only available intermittently. Non-intermittent, concentrated nuclear power has a low carbon footprint, making it an important part of India’s energy mix in order to satisfy the country’s international environmental obligations.
While India’s local uranium resources are limited, we have a far more plentiful supply of Thorium. The Three Stage Nuclear Power Program has been proposed as a way to extract thorium.
Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) are the backbone of India’s nuclear power programme in the early stages of development. UO2 having 0.7 percent fissile 235U and 99.3% 238U is used as fuel in PHWRs and Heavy water is used as a moderator and principal cooling agent.
For hydrogen generation, BARC is working on thermochemical techniques (Prasad and Dulera, 2009; Shriniwas Rao et al., 2015) and high-temperature steam electrolysis. Water and heat are used as inputs, and hydrogen and oxygen are produced as a byproduct. The chemicals and reagents used in the thermochemical processes are recycled in a closed loop. Sulfur-iodine (S–I) and copper-chlorine (Cu–Cl) processes represent two interesting thermochemical processes with high and low temperature regimes, respectively.
Currently, BARC’s R&D efforts are concentrated on the more difficult S–I process. Before a large-scale deployment is planned, other choices will be investigated so that the technology mix may be optimized. For example, sulfuric acid (H2SO4) is formed and decomposed in the S–I process, a three-step process that includes the Bunsen reaction (HI).In order to build water filtration systems in communities, CSC signed an agreement with the Bhabha Atomic Research Center. Commodity Service Centers, the government’s rural e-governance programme (CSCs).
